Quick Install

  1. Download the .deb package
  2. Open terminal in Downloads folder
  3. Run: sudo dpkg -i memory-clip_2.1.0_all.deb
  4. Dependencies will install automatically
  5. F4 shortcut configured automatically (GNOME/Ubuntu)
Shared Systems: Installation updates F4 for your account. Other users need to reinstall to use their account.

Other Desktops: Manual setup required

KDE Plasma

  1. Open System Settings
  2. Go to Shortcuts > Custom Shortcuts
  3. Click "Edit" > "New" > "Global Shortcut" > "Command/URL"
  4. Set Trigger to F4
  5. Set Command to: /usr/bin/memory-clip

XFCE

  1. Open Settings Manager
  2. Go to Keyboard > Application Shortcuts
  3. Click "Add" button
  4. Set Command to: /usr/bin/memory-clip
  5. Press F4 when prompted for shortcut key

Other Desktops

  1. Open your desktop environment's keyboard settings
  2. Create new custom shortcut
  3. Set command to: /usr/bin/memory-clip
  4. Assign F4 key as trigger

Common Issues

  • If dependencies fail: sudo apt update && sudo apt install -f
  • For permission issues: Check if user is in input group
  • For clipboard issues: Install xclip (X11) or wl-clipboard (Wayland)
  • For notification issues: Install libnotify-bin package

Known Limitations

  • Works best with native desktop applications
  • Some web-based systems (Gmail, etc.) may have limitations
  • One active user per system (last installer gets F4 functionality)
